The Indian batters have set the tone early in games and capitalised consistently, putting Sri Lanka under pressure from the outset. However, Sri Lanka showed signs of improvement in the high-scoring fourth T20I, registering their highest-ever Women’s T20I total of 191/6 while chasing India’s 221/2. India vs Sri Lanka Women’s 5th T20I: Pitch Report

The previous two T20Is of the series were played at the same venue, and the surface is expected to favour batters once again. With dew likely to play a role in the evening, the team winning the toss may prefer to bowl first.

India vs Sri Lanka Women’s 5th T20I: Key players to watch

Shafali Verma has been the standout performer of the series for India, scoring three half-centuries in four matches at a strike rate exceeding 185. In the previous game, she and Smriti Mandhana stitched together a record-breaking 162-run opening partnership, the highest in Women’s T20I history.

Smriti Mandhana recently made history by becoming the fastest woman to reach 10,000 international runs, surpassing Mithali Raj. She is now second only to New Zealand’s Suzie Bates on the list.

Jemimah Rodrigues is expected to return after missing the fourth match due to a mild fever. In the bowling department, Renuka Singh Sharma will be one to watch after her four-wicket haul in the third T20I. Deepti Sharma, meanwhile, continues to provide vital all-round contributions and is just one wicket away from becoming the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20I history.

Sri Lanka will be keen to put up a strong fight and avoid a whitewash. Captain Chamari Athapaththu remains their most important all-rounder and a key figure at the top of the order. Much of Sri Lanka’s hopes will rest on her ability to provide a strong start.

Kavisha Dilhari, Sri Lanka’s highest wicket-taker in the series so far, will play a crucial role in trying to rein in India’s aggressive batting lineup.
