After debutant Mayank Agarwal gave India a steady start on the opening day of the third Test match, riding on Cheteshwar Pujara’s century, Team India stamped their authority on the second Day of the ongoing Test match which is being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Cheteshwar Pujara, on Thursday, smashed his 17th century in the longest format of the game. It was also Pujara’s seventh score of 50+ in a calendar year in away Tests. Pujara has already smashed four Test centuries against Australia out of which two have come in the ongoing Test series. In the ongoing year, Pujara has scored three centuries and all of them have materialised on foreign soils.

India’s Test specialist Pujara now also holds the record for the highest conversion rate by an Indian while batting at number 3 position in the longest format of the game (the criteria being minimum 10 scores of 50+ at number 3 position).

Pujara has so far played 61 Test matches for India and scored 16 centuries and 18 fifties, a total of 34 fifty-plus scores and his conversion rate is 47.06 per cent. Dilip Vengsarkar is at the second spot in the list with a conversion rate of 42.11 per cent. Vengsarkar scored eight hundreds and 11 fifties in his 49 outings for India.

Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid is third in the list with a conversation rate of 35.90 per cent. Dravid has 28 hundreds and 50 half-centuries under his belt from 135 Test matches.

 

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli also supported Pujara on Thursday with his 82 runs knock at the MCG. Resuming their innings at 215 for the loss of two wickets, Team India added 228 runs before declaring their innings at 443 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
