Newly-appointed Test captain of Bangladesh cricket team, Mominul Haque said he is looking forward to begin the new chapter of his career and believed that being captain would make him a responsible cricketer.

“Being a captain will help me become more responsible and it will further improve my cricketing knowledge. As a captain, it is a good opportunity for me to showcase my skills,” Haque wa quoted by ANI.

Speaking to the reporters at the pre-match press conference ahead of the first Test in Indore, Haque also maintained that the approach towards his batting will not change and instead suggested that the adjustment would be more on the mental aspect of the game.

Haque was appointed the captain in the longest format after regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan was handed a two-year ban (one year suspended) for failure to report corrupt approaches by Indian bookie.

The 28-year-old also spoke about the second Test of the series which will be a Day-Night affair in pink ball and, like their opponent India’s, will be their first-ever outing in the newest format of the game.

“It will be a challenge and it will be an opportunity for everyone. We practiced with the pink ball in Dhaka, but we haven’t practiced with the pink ball ever since coming here,” Haque said.

He added, “I do not have any experience with the pink ball, so I do not know how much it swings and moves. I do not think it would be a problem.”

Coming into a full-fledged Test series against India without the services of senior players like Shakib and Tamim Iqbal, who took leave for his wife’s pregnancy, will be a challenge, admitted Haque.

“Playing a full-fledged Test series against India will provide us with a good opportunity. We all are excited for the challenge that awaits us. We will try to play good cricket,” he said.
