Spain and Belgium lock horns in a blockbuster all-European FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal on Saturday, with a place in the last four at stake.

Spain enter the contest unbeaten and yet to concede a goal in the tournament, while Belgium arrive full of confidence after back-to-back comeback victories in the knockout stage.

Spain eye another statement win

La Roja topped their group before cruising past Austria 3-0 in the Round of 32. They then edged past neighbours Portugal in a tense Round-of-16 clash, with Mikel Merino’s stoppage-time winner sealing their place in the quarterfinals.

Luis de la Fuente’s side will now look to continue their impressive defensive record against a Belgium attack led by Romelu Lukaku, Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne.

Belgium chase another famous upset

Belgium’s road to the last eight has been anything but straightforward.

The Red Devils staged a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time in the Round of 32 before easing past co-hosts USA 4-1 in the Round of 16, thanks to a first-half brace from Charles De Ketelaere.

The quarterfinal marks Belgium’s fourth appearance at this stage of a FIFA World Cup. They previously defeated Spain in the 1986 quarterfinal and overcame Brazil in 2018, with their only quarterfinal defeat coming against Argentina in 2014.

Spain, meanwhile, has historically struggled in the last eight, progressing beyond the quarterfinals only twice—during their run to the 1950 final group stage and their triumphant 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa.
