Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is reportedly furious with Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona ace Lionel Messi for not attending the association’s awards ceremony.

The governing body of football had organised a gala in London last week to celebrate Luka Modric’s crowning as the world’s best player of the year.

However, the conspicuous absence of two of the biggest superstars in modern football – Messi and Ronaldo – attracted more attention than the celebration around Modric’s crowning.

And according to Spanish paper AS, Messi and Ronaldo’s snub has left FIFA president Gianni Infantino fuming.

In past decade either Argentina star Messi or Real Madrid’s all-time highest goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo has been on the show for the awards evenings – not least because either one was actually the winner of the prize.

With two of the biggest faces not on the show, it has been learnt that Infantino has felt as though the whole status of the gala had been lessened. The report also further claimed that Infantino has instructed FIFA’s lawyers to see if they can find a way to make it compulsory for those nominated to attend the gala.
