Records were broken and history was rewritten in the third One Day International (ODI) match between England and Australia at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Tuesday.

England thrashed Australia by 242 runs in the third ODI and in the process took the unassailable lead of 3-0 in the ongoing five-match ODI series between the arch-rivals. Though England have won the two games before this match, but the third game have more effect on the Aussie cricket fans as it was moreof a humiliation for a team that was ‘the best in the world’ not long ago.

Asked to bat first, England batters battered Australian bowlers and posted 481 runs for six wickets — the highest score in the history of men’s cricket. Following the target, Australia collapsed at the score of 239 runs in 37 overs.

1- The highest total in the history of men’s cricket — 481/6

On Tuesday, England cricket team broke their own record and posted a humongous total of 481 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. The highest record in men’s cricket was 444 by England against Pakistan on the same ground in 2016. England have then thrashed Pakistan by 169 runs.

England opener Alex Hales who also won the Man of the Match trophy scored 147 runs off 92 balls with a strike rate of 159.78. Jonny Bairstow scored an outstanding hundred and set the tempo of the game. Skipper Eoin Morgan and opener Jason Roy scored quickfire fifties to help England score this mammoth total.

2- England scored fastest 300, 400 and 450

English cricket team scored 300 runs just in 33 overs to become first ever team to score triple centuries in 33 overs. England also became the quickest to reach the landmark of 400 and 450 runs in the limited overs format.

3- Eoin Morgan – highest run-getter for England

English skipper Eoin Morgan on Tuesday become the highest run scorer for England in the ODI. Morgan has scored 6,187 runs in 203 One Day matches, which is higher than any other English player.

4- Biggest defeat for Australia (by runs) in ODIs

The five-time ODI world cup champions tasted their worst defeat in terms of run difference in the limited overs format. England thrashed Australia by 242 runs, the previous biggest defeat of Australia (206 runs) was against New Zealand in 1986.

5- Biggest win by English team (by runs) in ODI

England cricket team defeated Australia by 242 runs, which was the biggest win for the hosts (by runs). England team’s previous best 210-run win was against New Zealand in 2015.

6- Eoin Morgan scored England’s fastest ever half-century

England captain Eoin Morgan on Tuesday scored the fastest half-century by a English player in the history of the game. Morgan hammered his 37 th fifty in 21 deliveries. Before Morgan, the record was under Jos Buttler’s name. Buttler had scored his fastest 50 off 22 balls against Pakistan. However, Buttler still holds the record for England’s quickest ODI hundred.

7- 720 runs scored in an ODI match

A total of 720 (England’s 481 and Australia’s 2390) runs were scored – this is also the third most runs scored in an ODI match. The first spot in the list is reserved by a match between Australia and South Africa. In 2006, Australia and Proteas teams together scored 872 runs. The second spot in the list is reserved by India and Sri Lanka in 2009. In the match, viewers witnessed a total of 825 runs being scored.

8- Maximum number of boundaries in a single match

In the match, 62 boundaries (41 fours and 21 sixes) were scored — most in a single ODI match. The second in the list is reserved by a match between the English team and Sri Lanka in which 59 boundaries were scored.

9- 19th time a team scored 400-runs in an ODI

There are very few occasions when the 400-run mark is crossed by a team in ODIs. On Tuesday, England crossed the mark for the third time. In the history of ODI cricket, only 19th time a team had reached 400 runs.

Proteas team have reached the mark of 400 runs (six times) maximum by a team, followed by India (5 times).

10- Jonny Bairstow — 6 ODIs, 4 century

England opener Jonny Bairstow on Tuesday scored 139 runs and in the process became 8th player to score four hundreds in six ODI innings. Other than Jonny, Indian skipper Virat Kohli, David Warner, Quinton de Kock, Kumar Sangakkara, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Zaheer Abbas are the only players to achieve this feat.
