Norway’s star player Casper Ruud on Wednesday declared that World Number One ranking is in his reach. He further claimed that he can achieve top ranking as early as the Australian Open in the next month.

The current World Number 3 had his chance to become the top ranker when he locked horns with Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final earlier this year, but Alcaraz won in just 4 sets to clinch the title and also the number one spot.

“If there is maybe one time that it could happen again, it’s actually in the near future” Ruud said ahead of the inaugural United Cup mixed-teams tournament.

The 24-year-Old also stated, “If I have a good trip I can be in a position (to become number one) again.”

Moreover, “I think last season has shown me that I have the potential if I continue to do the right things, work hard, I can be in that position again, or it can never happen — you never know in this sport,” was quoted as saying before the inaugural Unit Cup tournament.

Casper Ruud will be playing his inaugural match against Thiago Monteiro on Sunday.
