Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has allayed fears over the shoulder/collarbone injury he suffered in the UEFA Champions League final as he insists that he will recover in time to represent Egypt at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Salah was brought down by Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos in an ungainly manner early on in Kiev and was they tumbled to the floor, the Egyptian’s shoulder came under the Los Blancos defender’s body.

The 25-year-old Egyptian immediately signalled to the bench and while aid was forthcoming and he did reenter the field after receiving treatment, the pain was too much to bear and Salah trudged off the field in tears.

Adam Lallana replaced him and many felt that Salah’s untimely exit scuppered the Reds’ chances of lifting their sixth European crown.

And Salah’s injury proved telling as Liverpool slumped to a 1-3 defeat to Zinedine Zidane’s men, who became the first team in history to win three Champions League titles back-to-back.

Meanwhile, an entire nation were hoping against hope that the injury wasn’t as bad as it looked.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, in his post-match press conference, stated that the injury looked quite bad but only after an x-ray could he provide a definitive update.

The German’s comments sparked mass panic in Egypt as Salah is undoubtedly their talisman and their chances of progressing to the knockout stages in Russia, without him, are slim at best.

The quadrennial showpiece kicks off on June 14 and Egypt, who are in Group A, open their campaign on June 15 when they take on South American side Uruguay at the Ekaterinburg Arena in Ekaterinburg.

Hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia are the other teams in Group A.
