Acharya Balkrishna has once again stirred a health conversation on social media, this time with something sitting quietly in most Indian kitchens. Taking to Facebook, the Patanjali co-founder shared his thoughts on a humble yet powerful dish, khichdi.
And as always, his words quickly caught attention making people look at this comfort food in a whole new light.

In his post, Acharya Balkrishna described khichdi as “nutritious and easy to digest.” No fancy superfoods, no imported health hacks. Just rice, moong dal, and age-old wisdom.

Sometimes, health advice doesn’t need to be complicated. And that’s exactly why his message is resonating with so many.
According to Acharya Balkrishna, rice contains very little fat. Because of this, it is considered light and easy to digest. This makes rice suitable for people of all ages from children to the elderly, and even those recovering from illness.
In Ayurveda, foods that digest easily are considered helpful in maintaining overall balance in the body.
In simple words, rice doesn’t burden your stomach. It gives energy without making you feel heavy, sleepy, or bloated. That’s probably why rice-based meals have been part of Indian diets for centuries.
Here’s where khichdi becomes extra special. Acharya Balkrishna explains that when dal is added to rice, it reduces rice’s “vayu” or gas-forming effect. Moong dal, in particular, is known to be gentle on digestion.
This combination balances the meal. Rice provides energy, while moong dal adds protein and nutrition.
Together, they create a dish that is filling but not harsh on the stomach. That’s why moong dal khichdi is often recommended during fasting, illness, or digestion issues.
Acharya Balkrishna clearly points out that rice and moong dal khichdi is both light and nutritious. It doesn’t overload the digestive system, yet it provides enough nourishment to keep the body strong.
This is why khichdi is often called “complete food” in Ayurveda.
