‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign: Punjab Police arrest 94 drug smugglers during statewide raids

Continuing the relentless campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh” launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to end drug menace in the state, the Punjab Police carried out simultaneous raids at 298 locations on Friday, marking the 237th consecutive day of the operation.

The coordinated crackdown led to the arrest of 94 drug smugglers from across the state and the registration of 73 First Information Reports (FIRs). With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested has reached 33,950 since the launch of the campaign.

During the latest round of raids, the police recovered 197 grams of heroin, 40 kg of poppy husk, 1,029 intoxicant tablets or capsules and Rs 12,800 in drug money from the possession of the accused.

Chief Minister Mann has directed the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to intensify efforts to make Punjab a drug-free state.

To ensure effective implementation and monitoring, the government has also constituted a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.

Over 120 police teams comprising more than 1,000 personnel and operating under the supervision of 62 gazetted officers conducted the statewide operation. Police teams also checked 340 suspicious individuals during the day-long drive.
