Won’t let Ahmed Patel’s legacy go in vain, says daughter after Congress gives Bharuch seat to AAP

Congress leader and daughter of late party veteran Ahmed Patel Mumtaz Patel on Saturday said that she won’t let her father’s legacy go in vain and vowed to make the party stronger.

She, however, apologised to party workers for not being able to secure Gujarat’s Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party.

In her first reaction to the Congress giving the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat to the AAP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Patel in a post on X wrote: “Deeply apologize to our district cadre for not being able to secure the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in alliance. I share your disappointment.”

“Together, we will regroup to make @INCIndia stronger. We won’t let @ahmedpatel 45 years of legacy go in vain,” she said.

Notably, she had earlier claimed that there was anger among the workers and people of Bharuch for alleged defamatory speech against Patel.

“Anger amongst the @INCIndia workers and people of Bharuch due to one-sided defamatory speech of @AamAadmiParty against Late @ahmedpatel ji .Congress is present in every street and will remain so. Coalition religion cannot be one-sided. Plz refrain and restrain,” she said.

It may be mentioned that Ahmed was first elected as an MP from Bharuch in 1977.

Earlier in the day, the Congress and the AAP announced seat-sharing for the upcoming general elections.

As per the agreement, in Gujarat, of the 26 Lok Sabha seats, the Congress will contest in 24 parliamentary seats and the AAP in two constituencies. The two seats are Bharuch and Bhavnagar.
