Police on Wednesday arrested a woman for sending fake bomb threat to EVMs and ATMs to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and some police officers.

According to reports, the woman, identified as R Sriranjani, was arrested by police from Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district. The 40-year-old is a resident of Seethanagaram village in Anakapalle – a small mandal to the west of Vishakhapatnam.

According to the police, the woman was trying to take revenge for alleged non-payment of funds meant for government welfare schemes by a bank.

Sriranjani, a community activist in Velugu, handles about 35 clusters that implement these schemes.

She allegedly stole a SIM card from her friend’s mobile and bought a mobile phone with a fake signature and a fictitious name using which she messaged everyone.

A case was registered on 23 April. Police took the matter extremely seriously especially due to the Sri Lanka bombings that happened on 21 April.

They traced the messages to Sriranjani and arrested her on Wednesday after a thorough investigation.

Cases were booked against her under various sections of the IT Act, apart from theft and forgery.
