Hours after former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan’s resignation, the Congress on Sunday said that it is always a matter of anguish when colleagues who have been given much more than they deserved leave the party.
In a social media post on ‘X’, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “When friends and colleagues leave a political party that has given them much—perhaps much more than they deserved—it is always a matter of anguish. But to those who are vulnerable, THAT Washing Machine will always prove more attractive than ideological commitment or personal loyalties. These betrayers don’t realize that their exit opens up vast new opportunities for those whose growth they have always stunted.”
His remarks came amid strong buzz in Maharashtra power corridors that Chavan will join the BJP along with 10-12 MLAs.

Earlier today, Chavan tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party without mentioning any reasons behind his decision.
“I hereby submit my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with effect from noon on 12/02/2024,” a line resignation letter of Chavan read.
The development comes as a huge blow to the Congress ahead the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It also comes just two days after another senior leader Baba Siddiqui resigned from the grand old party and joined NCP.
This was the third high profile exit from the Maharashtra Congress.
Earlier last month, senior Congress leader and former union minister Milind Deora joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena after resigning from the grand old party.
Deora, who severed ties with the Congress after a prolonged association with the party, joined the Shiv Sena, saying the grand old party has just one goal to speak against whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks or does.
