A 50-year-old villager sustained serious injuries after stepping on a pressure IED allegedly planted by Maoists in a forested area near Pujarikanker village under the Usoor police station limits in Bijapur district of south Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Monday evening.

The injured, identified as Kalmu Ganga, a resident of Schoolpara in Pujarikanker, had gone into the forest to graze his cattle when he accidentally triggered the concealed explosive device. Police officials confirmed that the blast caused severe injuries to his foot.

Upon receiving information, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed at the Pujarikanker camp swiftly reached the spot, provided first aid, and transported the victim to the Community Health Centre in Usoor for further medical care.

“This area is a known Maoist stronghold, and such IEDs are often planted to target security forces. Unfortunately, civilians sometimes fall victim to these hidden traps,” said senior journalist Ganesh Mishra.

Meanwhile the security forces have intensified combing operations in the surrounding region to detect any additional explosives and prevent further casualties.

This incident comes amid heightened anti Maoist operations in the region. In recent months, security forces have successfully neutralized several Maoist camps, including a major encounter in April in the nearby Pamed forest, where multiple IEDs were recovered and dismantled. Authorities have appealed to villagers to remain vigilant while venturing into forested areas and report any suspicious objects or activity.
