As Members of Parliament head to vote for the ‘ideological’ Vice Presidential Election 2025 on Tuesday, NDA nominee and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan expressed confidence in a sweeping win, calling it a “big victory for Indian nationalism.”
Ahead of the voting, Radhakrishnan offered prayers at the Shree Ram Mandir in Lodhi Road area in Delhi.

Speaking to reporters outside the temple, he said, “The elections are taking place. It is going to be a big victory for Indian nationalism. We are all one, we will be one and we want India to become ‘Viksit Bharat’.”
Radhakrishnan is contesting against INDIA bloc’s B Sudershan Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge. The voting will be held between 10 am- 5 pm and the results are expected within a couple of hours.
Unless some extraordinary developments take place on Tuesday, it appears a symbolic contest given the numbers clearly favour the NDA candidate.
At present, both the Houses of Parliament have 781 MPs, including 239 Rajya Sabha MPs and 542 Lok Sabha MPs, who are eligible to vote.
However, with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) deciding to abstain, the total number of votes comes down to 770, making 386 the majority mark.
The BJP-led NDA has 435 MPs and the alliance is also likely to get the support of 11 YSR Congress MPs and AAP’s rebel Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.
In contrast, the Opposition INDIA bloc has a combined strength of 324 MPs. While the numbers overwhelmingly favor the NDA, the Opposition remains optimistic about the possibility of “conscience-based voting” altering the outcome.
“Justice B. Sudershan Reddy will win because he is not a candidate of any political party and is not contesting on any party symbol,” said Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, suggesting the election could transcend party lines.
