With the aim to increase efficiency in everything from ‘crime control’ to the ‘judicial process’, the Uttar Pradesh government is increasingly leveraging advanced technologies to further enhance its model of good governance. Officials here on Friday said to make the state police system smarter and more efficient, the government has created a new, advanced digital database called ‘Trinetra 2.0’. It is an AI-enhanced platform that digitally secures and organises police records.
This system makes identifying criminals and understanding their history fast and accurate. Trinetra uses modern technologies like facial recognition, voice identification, and text-based queries to help police identify suspects; this has significantly improved the speed of crime investigations.

Operation Trinetra was launched in all districts of the state in July 2023. Under this initiative, the installation of CCTV cameras at important intersections, sensitive locations, hotspots, banks, schools, colleges, commercial establishments, religious sites, mobile towers, petrol pumps, and dhabas, was initiated through civic voluntary organisations. By the beginning of 2025, 1,107,782 CCTV cameras had been installed at identified locations in all police stations across the state. As a result, a total of 5,718 incidents of robbery, looting, and other serious crimes were successfully uncovered through Trinetra.

To strengthen law and order and streamline the judicial process, the scope of digital and artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions in the government system is continuously expanding and enriching.
The UP government has also taken significant steps towards making prison administration smart. An AI-powered video analytics platform has been implemented in the state’s prisons, enabling real-time monitoring of inmate activities. This platform immediately identifies any suspicious activity or potential risk, significantly improving prison security. Additionally, senior officials can monitor the situation in various jails in real time and issue necessary instructions immediately.
During the inauguration of the upgraded Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Gorakhpur, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently stated, “Now, there will be no escape for criminals in the state. Forensic investigations will uncover the chain of crime within minutes, and scientific evidence will play a decisive role in every serious case.”
The upgrade of the Forensic Science Lab in Gorakhpur has significantly enhanced the scientific capabilities of investigative agencies. Equipped with advanced machinery and trained experts, this lab has elevated the quality of crime investigations to new heights. The government firmly believes that modern forensic techniques ensure accurate and scientific investigation of crimes, and therefore, special attention is being paid to strengthen the forensic and investigative capabilities across the state.
All these initiatives aim to develop a system of good governance in Uttar Pradesh that places transparency, efficiency, and technological empowerment at the core. This strategy of the Yogi Adityanath government is significantly contributing to establishing the state as a safe, law-based, and technology-driven state.
