Uttar Pradesh Minister and senior BJP leader Dinesh Pratap Singh has written a formal letter to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda, accusing the Raebareli police of misconduct and undue favoritism during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the constituency.
According to Singh, the police diverted traffic along a 70-kilometer stretch and forcibly removed small vendors, including roadside hawkers, in anticipation of Gandhi’s convoy. He criticized what he described as “excessive hospitality” shown by the police towards the Congress leader.

Singh stated that on the morning of September 10, a meeting was being held at Mahavir Singh College in Raebareli with BJP workers to discuss upcoming graduate teacher and panchayat elections. During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi’s convoy passed by on the Raebareli–Lucknow highway, prompting peaceful protests from BJP workers.
The protestors reportedly held banners reading “Hindustan will not tolerate the insult of Modi Ji’s mother” and waved BJP flags. The slogan referred to a past incident in Bihar where alleged derogatory remarks were made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, for which Singh claimed Gandhi and the Congress leadership expressed neither remorse nor condemnation.
Singh emphasized that the protest was peaceful and non-disruptive, with clear signage indicating that roads remained open for the public. However, he alleged that Raebareli police officers used force, seized microphones and flags, and manhandled BJP workers.
The minister said he personally witnessed police insulting the protestors, who he maintained were demonstrating in a lawful and respectful manner. He has demanded action against the concerned police officials and urged the BJP leadership to take cognizance of the issue.
