In a first, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has proposed to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the pollution control mechanism.
This is in line with the resolve of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to optimise effective and positive use of AI in every field.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday between the UP Pollution Control Board and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Lucknow, in this regard.

As per the MoU, the IIIT will develop an AI-based monitoring and analytics tool that integrates web/PTZ camera feeds, Online Continuous Emission/Effluent Monitoring Systems (OCEEMS) data from STPs and industries, and Bio-Medical Waste.
The project shall be executed in three phases: consulting, implementation, and post-implementation.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. R. P. Singh, Chairman UPPCB, and Dr. Arun Mohan Sherry, Director, IIIT Lucknow, by Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Member Secretary, UPPCB, and Dr. Deepak Kumar Singh, IIIT Lucknow.
Dr. Bindu Singh and Kumar Sindhurakshit from IIIT Lucknow, along with Mr. Anil Kumar Mathur from UPPCB, were present on the occasion.
