Under the Drug-Free India Campaign, the Prohibition Department, Uttar Pradesh, organized a state-level seminar and special programs on Wednesday at the Centenary Auditorium, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
The program, organized in collaboration with the Dean of Students, Faculty of Student Welfare, BHU, aimed to raise awareness among youth about the ill effects of drug abuse. Minister of Excise and Prohibition Nitin Agarwal participated in the program as the chief guest, while Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi presided over it.

On this occasion, the Minister and guests inaugurated the Prohibition Exhibition, visited the exhibition, and began the program by garlanding the statue of Malviyaji and lighting a lamp.
In his address on the occasion, Nitin Agarwal expressed concern over the increasing drug addiction among youth and said that the campaign for a Drug-Free India needs to be accelerated as a mass movement. He stated that this requires the active participation of every citizen, along with the efforts of the government and administration.
The Minister called upon everyone to work with determination to build a drug-free society, in line with the Prime Minister’s Vision for a Developed India 2047.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi emphasized the role of universities in preventing and raising awareness about drug abuse among youth.
At the end of the program, the Minister honoured the winners of various competitions organized by the Prohibition Department with prizes and certificates.
