Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) President Ajay Rai on Thursday announced a major legal initiative to counter what he described as the “autocratic misuse of power” by the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government.

“In Yogi’s regime, not only Congress workers but journalists and social activists are being harassed with false cases simply for speaking the truth or opposing government policies,” said Ajay Rai, addressing a press conference here at the state Congress headquarters.

“To fight this injustice, we will reorganize our legal department and deploy ‘Nyay Yoddhas’ to offer legal support and stand with the oppressed,”he announced.

These Nyay Yoddhas, Rai stated, will fight for the legal rights of those targeted by political vendettas and will actively work to protect democracy and constitutional values. He further added that these legal warriors will expose electoral fraud, particularly manipulation in voter lists, and provide assistance to those whose names have been unfairly removed.

Addressing the media, UPCC legal cell coordinator Asif Rizvi revealed that over 1,719 false cases have been registered against Congress workers across the state by the BJP government as an act of political vengeance. “We will provide legal aid to every affected worker and strengthen them through lawful means,” Rizvi declared.

He also announced a series of legal demands including implementation of the Advocate Protection Act, proper seating facilities for lawyers in court premises, monthly stipends for junior advocates (up to 5 years), fulfillment of the state government’s promise of Rs 10 lakh insurance for lawyers, and demand for Rs 20 lakh compensation for families of deceased advocates.

Legal Department Chairman Nitin Kumar Mishra reaffirmed the department’s ongoing commitment to the rights of legal professionals and its resolve to resist the government’s authoritarian actions through legal means. “Our fight for justice will continue,” Mishra asserted.
