Uttar Pradesh on Thursday hosted the Viksit Uttar Pradesh @2047 Tourism Workshop in the state capital, bringing together senior government leadership, national experts and tourism stakeholders to shape the long-term vision for the state’s rapidly growing tourism sector.
With more than 121 crore visitors recorded between January and June 2025 and a steady rise in spiritual, cultural, eco and rural travel, the workshop focused on strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s tourism position in line with the 2047 development goals.

The introductory session reviewed the state’s rising domestic and foreign arrivals, stronger airport and expressway connectivity, cultural corridor development and the emergence of new tourism circuits. The workshop highlighted the need for stronger visitor infrastructure, destination capacity planning and a data-driven approach to long-term tourism management.

Director General of Tourism Rajesh Kumar opened the workshop by welcoming all participants and underlined the growth momentum shaping Uttar Pradesh’s tourism ecosystem.
Speaking about the current phase of expansion, he said Uttar Pradesh is entering one of its strongest periods of tourism development driven by expressways, expanding airports, Vande Bharat corridors and global cultural events such as Deepotsav, Dev Deepawali and the Maha Kumbh.
He added that the rise of community-led tourism, eco tourism in the Terai and the expansion of circuits across the state will play a central role in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future.
This was followed by an address by Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Planning and Programme Implementation, and remarks from Ranjan Kumar, Principal Secretary AYUSH, and Amit Bhardwaj from NITI Aayog, who highlighted national expectations, sectoral priorities and opportunities for Uttar Pradesh.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh expressed gratitude to all experts, sector partners and institutions for contributing their perspectives.
He said the insights shared during this workshop will support the state in preparing a coherent and actionable Tourism Vision 2047 and emphasised that Uttar Pradesh’s progress as a leading tourism destination will continue to rely on community participation, sustainable planning and a shared commitment to improving visitor experience across every region of the state.
