Renewing the long-standing demand for improved judicial access in Uttar Pradesh, ruling BJP’s Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh has once again written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the establishment of additional High Court benches across the state.
In his letter, Singh recalled his earlier communication (dated November 21, 2024), where he underscored the state’s massive population and the seriousness of its mounting backlog of cases.

Highlighting the disparity, Singh noted that while Uttar Pradesh — India’s most populous state — currently has only the principal bench at Allahabad (Prayagraj) and a bench in Lucknow, other states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh already operate multiple benches. Maharashtra, he pointed out, was recently granted approval for yet another bench.
He emphasised, “Citizens from Western Uttar Pradesh, Bundelkhand, Gorakhpur, and other far-flung regions face enormous distance and expenses to access justice. This not only discourages the common people but also adversely impacts the state’s development works, as critical cases including land acquisition suffer long delays.”
The Jewar legislator also reminded that he had raised this demand earlier in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. With more than 1 crore pending cases, he argued, the creation of new benches has become “an urgent necessity.”
Appealing for swift intervention, Singh urged the Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of Law and Justice to set up new High Court benches in Meerut, Agra, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
He concluded, “This step will not only make justice accessible and affordable for the people of the state but also realise the right to equal justice in democratic India.”
