Little did he know about his global prospects as he only had local viewers in mind when he launched his YouTube channel two years back, Chhattisgarhi singing sensation Nitin Dubey is one among several lesser known artists today who have taken the Chhattisgarh culture from Norway in northern Hemisphere to Australia in southern end of this planet.

His latest chartbuster song ‘Gonda Tola Re’ is creating ripples among the music lovers who have special liking for folk and unexplored oriental melodies. His audience ranges from Norway in the Northern Hemisphere to Australia in the South, several top American and European cities, and countries like Kuwait, UAE and Japan. He is also creating a niche for himself among the youth from non Hindi speaking Indian states.

Similar is the story with self made Chhattisgarh comedian Amalesh Nagesh who has more than 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube alone. In less than two years several of his videos breached 50 lakh view mark.

“I am nostalgic about Chhattisgarhi culture, therefore, I always make it a point to ensure that all the characters shown in my music albums have proper traditional Chhattisgarh attires”, Nitin told the Statesman. He is sort of trying to recreate an enthusiasm to our great and harmonious culture, he added.

Nitin Dubey, 41, who is known locally as “Singing Superstar” and “Melody King,” is quickly gaining more popularity among the general public. When Dubey’s debut album “Tain Deewani Main Deewana” was released in 2001, it charmed millions of movie and music fans in the newbie state vying for its unique cultural identity.

This album earned him a tryst with Chhattisgarh’s acclaimed Jasgeet singer Dilip Sadangi. He never looked back since then duo came up with many hit albums. However, his best was yet to come with one of his albums “Haai Mor Chandni” in 2005 proved to be a chartbuster in the state. Nitin later formed his music group and began his footprint in Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. With more than 2000 stage presentations in Chhattisgarh and other states, he has become synonymous with Chhattisgarh cinema and music.

His first recognition came when he was accorded ‘Maati Ratna’ by Chhattisgarh Lok Kala Sansthan in 2008 and Kala Anmol Ratna in 2009. In 2009, Nitin began his journey with devotional songs with nationally acclaimed singers Suresh Wadekar and Sadhna Sargam.

However, hailing from a culturally lesser-known state, it was a bit difficult for him to earn a place for himself on digital platforms such as Youtube and Facebook. But his relentless efforts have now begun paying dividends. He can boast of several hundred thousand followers on social media and is the most subscribed singer on Youtube. His melodious legacy spans more than 50 back-to-back chartbuster songs such as Raigad Wala Raja, Haai Re Mor Kochaipan, Ka Tain Roop Nikhare Chandani, and Chanda Re, Gulmohar, Bekar Kar Dehe Mola, Chandni 2, Haai Tor Bindiya, O Jaaneman, Toor Kasam. His Youtube Channel has more than 6 lakh subscribers with over 223 million viewers.

Nitin has sung and composed music in many movies with the album Dil Pardesi Hoge Re, and most recently ‘Chal Hat Konho Dekh Lihi’ and the upcoming film ‘Mr. Majnu’.
