Union Home Secretary to review anti-terror operations in Jammu

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and other senior security officers arrived here on Wednesday for a two-day visit to review the overall security scenario in the Union Territory, with a special focus on border management, Pakistan’s drone incursions and ongoing anti-terror operations in mountainous areas of the Jammu region.

Sources said that the meeting will focus on an in-depth review of counter-terror operations in hilly districts of the Jammu region, such as Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur, where gunfights have happened recently with Pakistani terrorists.

Anti-infiltration measures and further strengthening of the anti-infiltration grid are also expected to be reviewed during the meeting. Officials said the visiting central team is likely to assess the effectiveness of existing border management mechanisms and suggest additional measures in view of evolving threats.

The visit comes close on the heels of a high-level security review chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on 8 January, during which the Centre reiterated its commitment to completely eradicate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said that the visiting team will assess the prevailing security situation across Jammu and Kashmir, including attempts by Pakistan-based handlers to push terrorists and arms through drone activity and infiltration routes. Incursions by Pakistani drones in the border areas of Jammu have increased during the past few days.

Top officials, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, DGs of BSF, CRPF, and senior officers of the central and state intelligence agencies, are participating in the meeting.
