Crediting Amit Shah for BJP’s “expansion” and “nation building” efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated him for completing three years in office.

Shah was elected unopposed president of the BJP on 24 January 2016 for a second term. He had earlier completed Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s interrupted tenure as president from July 2014.

Under Shah, the BJP has rapidly expanded its base and clinched states like Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

Known as a master strategist, the BJP chief is a close confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the duo have played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the BJP on the national stage post the 2014 general elections.

With Shah at the helm, BJP is ruling a total of 13 states and is in power in another five with alliance partners.

The 52-year-old astute leader has also made his debut in Parliament as a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat and as per reports is likely to get an important ministry soon.
