Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that he received a call from his “friend” President Donald Trump of the United States. During their telephonic conversation, the two leaders discussed the prevailing situation in West Asia and reviewed the progress achieved in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Modi, who posted about the conversation on X, said that they both stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.

“Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas. We also discussed the situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure,” Modi said.
Their 40-minute phonecall reportedly ended with Trump telling the Prime Minister: “I just want you to know we all love you.”
This is the second time Trump has called Prime Minister Modi in less than a fortnight. The US President had spoken to PM Modi last month when the conflict in the Middle East was rising.
During the previous conversation, Prime Minister Modi had reiterated that New Delhi “supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest.”
“Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world,” Modi had told Trump.
The development comes a day after the US Navy’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz came into effect. Trump had announced the move after peace talks with Iran held in Islamabad collapsed.
The development also follows reports of a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran. According to a Reuters report, both countries could return to Islamabad this week for further negotiations.
According to the news agency, a fresh proposal has been shared with both Iran and the US to resend their delegations even as no date has been finalised for the meeting with delegations from Tehran and Washington keeping Friday through Sunday open.
