Joining the relief effort in the cyclone-ravaged neighbouring Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday flagged off relief materials on behalf of the state through India Coast Guard Ships from Chennai and Thoothukudi.
Of the total 950 MT relief materials, 650 tonnes were flagged off from Chennai Port and the remaining 300 tonnes from Thoothukudi Port.

The Chief Minister handed over samples of the consignment, including milk powder, blankets, and bed sheets, to the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, Dr Ganesanathan, who was present on the occasion.
The state is dispatching 300 tonnes each of sugar and dal, 25 tonnes each of milk powder, dhotis, and sarees, besides towels and blankets. Further, 1,000 tarpaulin covers are also being sent. From Thoothukudi, 150 tonnes of sugar are being sent.
In the immediate aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah’s dance of death and destruction in the island nation, Stalin assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to help the affected people recover.
