The Monsoon session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, commencing on Tuesday, is expected to be stormy with the opposition led by the AIADMK training its guns on the ruling DMK on a host of issues, including the Karur stampede which claimed 41 lives during the rally of actor Vijay.
Earlier on Monday, the Business Advisory Council which met at the chambers of Speaker M Appavu, took a decision to have the session for four days till October 17. Being the last session of this year, it is obviously convened to pass the supplementary estimates for 2025-26, to be presented by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu.

But, it provides an opportunity to the opposition to corner the Stalin government on the Karur stampede following the Supreme Court ordering a CBI investigation monitored by a panel headed by a retired apex court judge. Also, the law and order situation and the rise of honour killings would be raised.

The death of 24 children in Madhya Pradesh after being administered the killer cough syrup Coldrif as well as the illegal kidney racket in Namakkal and other places which rocked the state are also expected to be raised. While Sresan Pharma, the manufacturers of Coldrif, has its production facility near Chennai, a private hospital in Namakkal linked to the kidney racket is said to be owned by a DMK legislator.
