Three terrorists were killed in Mujgund on the outskirts of Srinagar following an intense 18-hour-long gun battle that ended on Sunday morning. Around five security force personnel were also injured in the operation that began on Saturday following a tip-off.

One of the slain terrorists has been identified as a Pakistani commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) but the exact identity is being ascertained.

The bodies of the terrorists were recovered. Security forces also found incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from site of encounter.

A case has been registered and investigation initiated in matter. A combing operation is currently underway.

J-K Police issued an advisory urging people not to visit any encounter site till it is sanitised.

Security forces had surrounded the Mujgund area on the Bndipora road on Saturday and launched a search operation to find the terrorists.

The holed up terrorists opened fire at the security force personnel injuring an Indian Army soldier. Security force personnel retaliated. In the ensuing gun battle a CRPF trooper and three policemen were also injured.

The operation left four residential houses damaged as the terrorists kept changing locations during the gunfight.

Authorities suspended mobile Internet services in Srinagar district.

Civilian protesters clashed with security forces the moment the gun battle ended.
