In a joint operation on Wednesday in Jalandhar, Punjab Police and Special Operations Group (SoG) of Jammu-Kashmir Police busted a terror module by arresting three Kashmiri students allegedly belonging to the terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH).

The students were nabbed from the hostel of CT Institute of Engineering Management and Technology, located in Shahpur on the outskirts of Jalandhar, the Director General of Police (DGP), Suresh Arora said in a statement.

The joint team, which conducted a raid at the hostel early on Wednesday morning, also recovered two weapons, including an Ak-47 assault rifle as well as explosives.

The weapons and explosives were found in the hostel room of Zahid Gulzar, a Bachelor of Technology (Civil) student of second semester from Rajpora village in Awantipora area of Srinagar.

Zahid was detained along with two other students, Mohd Idriss Shah and Yusuf Rafiq Bhatt, who are residents of Pulwama.

J-K Police said that the module handler is being questioned.

In joint operation Punjab Police and J&K police picked up four students linked to AGH/JeM from Jalandhar,Punjab.Arms, ammunition & explosives recovered.

DGP Arora said that the arrests followed the development and corroboration of various inputs about the presence and activities of certain militant organisations operating in Jammu-Kashmir and Punjab.

The arrests have come following interrogation of a terrorist recently arrested in Kashmir.

It is worth mentioning that the police had recently nabbed Gazi Ahmad Malik of Shopian in South Kashmir from the Aryans Grouo Polytechnic College at Banur in Patiala (Punjab).

Gazi was closely related to Adil Bashir Sheikh, a J-K Police SPO who had fled with 7 Rifles from the residence of PDP MLA in Srinagar and had joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terror group.

Busting of the terror module belonging to AGH and JeM and the recovery of weapons indicate efforts by Pakistan’s ISI to revive terrorism in Punjab by roping in  Kashmiri terrorists.

Recent reports suggested that Kashmiri terrorist leaders have been visiting Punjab in a bid to establish contact with the sleeper cells there.

A case has been registered at Police Station Sadar Jalandhar under various Sections of Arms Act, Explosive Act and Unlawful Prevention Act against the three.

The J-K police and Punjab Police are interrogating the arrested students to ascertain the network they established.

“Further investigations are in progress and the Punjab Police is working closely with J-K Police to unravel the entire conspiracy and network built by these individuals in Punjab and J-K,” said the DGP.
