Thousands of people joined the last journey of Major Vibhuti Dhaundiyal in Dehradun on Tuesday to pay their last respects to the brave officer of Indian Army who was killed in an encounter between the security forces and terrorists in Pulwama. The jam-packed Dangwal Road witnessed a sentimental farewell in which Niketa, the wife of the martyred officer, presented a salute, conveying her last message as she blew a kiss to Vibhuti.

This action of Niketa turned the scenario emotional.

Niketa said, “I am proud to be Vibhu’s wife.” The scene made all the eyes moist. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat, and others visited the Dhaundiyal residence to pay their respects to the martyred officer.

Vibhuti was keen on making a career in the army right from his childhood and he made every possible attempt to realize his goal. The first effort was to get enrolled into the Rashtriya Indian Military Academy, followed by clearing the National Defence Academy examination, and the third attempt was to clear the Indian Military Academy examination. Vibhuti was finally successful in clearing the OTA exam to pursue his dream career with the Indian Army.

People from all walks of life thronged the Dangwal Road to offer their tributes. Wrapped in the Tricolor, the mortal remains of Major Vibhuti were carried on an army vehicle with the crowd chanting, “Major Vibhuti amar rehay.” The last rites of Vibhuti Dhaundiyal were performed at Haridwar.

Even at Haridwar, thousands of people gathered at the cremation site to pay their homage.
