‘This is ECI’s data, not mine’: Rahul Gandhi says won’t sign affidavit over ‘vote theft’ claim

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who led a massive INDIA bloc protest march from Parliament to the Election Commission of India’s office over alleged “vote theft” in 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Monday refused to sign an affidavit over his poll rigging claims.

The Congress MP said that the data he shared during his August 7 press conference on “vote theft” was given by the Election Commission.

“This is the Election Commission’s data. This is not my data, for which I will sign an affidavit,” he said.

He further stated, “Let the Election Commission pick up the data and put it on its website, then it will find out for itself.”

The Congress leader claimed that the poll panel’s notice to him over his vote theft claims was an attempt to divert attention from the issue.

“All this is just to divert attention from the issue. This did not happen only in Bengaluru, but in many constituencies as well. The Election Commission knows that the data they are trying to hide will explode,” he added.

Rahul, who was detained by the Delhi Police during the march, made the remarks while speaking to reporters after being released from the Parliament Street Police Station where he, along with other Opposition MPs, was held.

Speaking about the protest march and their subsequent arrest, the Congress leader asserted that the commission is afraid of the truth.

“Look at the state of democracy in India. 300 MPs want to meet the Election Commission, but the Election Commission says – You cannot come to meet. Because the Election Commission is afraid of the truth.”

He reiterated that his fight is not political but to save the Constitution of India.

“Now this is not a political fight, it is a fight to save the soul of the country. It is a fight to save the Constitution. According to the Constitution, one person has the right to one vote. We have clearly shown that now the concept of ‘one person-one vote’ no longer exists. The youth of the country have come to know this truth. Now it is difficult for the Election Commission to hide,” he added.
