Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday launched a blistering attack against the Election Commission of India over the alleged “vote chori” in elections, accusing the three Election Commissioners – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners (ECs) Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi – of helping Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP.

Addressing the massive ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, Priyanka said, “We must not forget the names of the three officials of the Election Commission, because these people are attacking democracy.”

She said that Gyanesh Kumar, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi will have to answer to the country. “This country will not forget the names of these three Election Commissioners. No matter how much the Modi government tries to protect them, one day they will have to answer to the country,” the Congress leader said.

Priyanka also challenged the BJP to hold a fair election on ballot papers. “They will never be able to win, and the BJP also knows this fact.”

She further alleged that the BJP depends on the Election Commission to win elections.  “Narendra Modi cannot win elections with the Election Commission of India.”

Accusing the BJP of undermining constitutional institutions, she said, “The Election Commission has made every step of the election process suspicious. Today, the Modi government has forced every institution of the country to bow before itself.”

The Congress leader also alleged that during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Opposition was unfairly targeted and the bank accounts of her party were seized.

“Chief Ministers were put in jail, Congress’s bank account was closed, and baseless allegations were made in the name of corruption…Those whose hearts were weak, who could not bear this pressure, joined the BJP. As people kept joining the BJP, they got washed and cleaned in BJP’s ‘washing machine’,” she said.

Priyanka claimed that a person in the Prime Minister’s office has been involved in betting app scams, but the issue was not discussed in the House.

“Today, the country’s youth spend the entire day on betting apps. Even in the Prime Minister’s Office, one person has been involved in betting app scams, but such issues are never discussed in the House,” she charged.

Priyanka accused the Modi government of ignoring essential issues like inflation, unemployment and women’s safety.

“The Modi government does not talk at all about essential issues like inflation, unemployment, and women’s safety. This government has failed on every front: The dollar has reached Rs 90; Foreign policy has failed; The youth are troubled by paper leaks; People are struggling with inflation and unemployment; Exports are declining, imports are becoming expensive; The country’s assets are being handed over to Adani and Ambani,” she added.
