The crowd’s demands were clear — they insisted that Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma be produced before them. Security forces quickly intervened, detaining several protesters and using batons to push back the mob and maintain order.
Inside the jail, the five accused — Mahanta, Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Nandeshwar Bora, and Paresh Baishya — were lodged with special security protocols in place.
Several additional security deployments were made around the premises to prevent further unrest. Authorities say that while the situation remains tense, control has been reestablished, and no large-scale damage or casualties beyond those already reported have occurred.
