‎TDP leaders, led by Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, on Thursday, expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla following the historic passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in Parliament, officially designating Amaravati as the state’s permanent capital.

Lokesh described the approval as a “milestone for the state’s development” and a moment of relief for farmers and citizens who had faced years of uncertainty.
‎During a meeting with Speaker Birla at Parliament House, Lokesh thanked him for ensuring smooth proceedings in the Lok Sabha, which had passed the bill by voice vote on Wednesday. “The support of Speaker Om Birla ensured that the legislative process was efficient and transparent, allowing us to achieve this historic outcome for Andhra Pradesh,” he said. The bill was subsequently passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

‎At a press briefing in Delhi, Lokesh highlighted the Centre’s role in the process. “Under the leadership of our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, we took it upon ourselves to pass a resolution declaring Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh. Thanks to the Honourable Home Minister Amit Shah ji, we were able to bring the bill to Delhi, complete the vetting process, and secure its passage in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,” he said.

‎While acknowledging the support of other political parties, Lokesh criticised the YSR Congress Party for opposing the legislation. “It is unfortunate that despite a clear mandate from the people of Andhra Pradesh, the party that secured just 6% of the seats chose to walk out of both Houses,” he said.

‎He also underscored the immediate developmental benefits of the decision. “All key projects — roads, Secretariat, Assembly, and High Court — have been restarted, and we are committed to completing them within the promised timeline. This will boost private investment, generate jobs, and accelerate growth in Amaravati,” he said. He paid tribute to the farmers, describing the bill’s passage as “a victory especially for those who sacrificed their land, endured hardships, and fought tirelessly to retain it as the sole capital.”
Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu welcomed the development on X, calling it “a historic and defining moment for Andhra Pradesh.” He thanked PM Modi for his steadfast support from laying Amaravati’s foundation stone in 2015 to reaffirming the city’s vision in 2025. Naidu emphasized that the decision was a tribute to the resilience of Amaravati’s farmers and a new beginning for the state’s progress, calling Amaravati “unstoppable, the heart of Andhra Pradesh and a future pride of the nation.”

‎The passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, ends a decade-long uncertainty over the state capital, bringing political clarity, renewed infrastructure momentum, and optimism for economic growth and development in Andhra Pradesh.
