With no party securing the required majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Assembly, the state has entered a phase of political uncertainty and intense negotiations.
TVK is believed to be holding behind-the-scenes negotiations with Congress and other smaller parties for an alliance.
Earlier on Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called Vijay to congratulate him on his party’s victory. Speculation is rife that the two leaders also discussed a possible alliance between their parties.
Some reports suggested that Congress has been offered two ministerial berths. Independents could also extend support to TVK.
Meanwhile, Vijay has sought a two-week window to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
According to news agency ANI, Vijay is likely to take oath as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
