External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has wished “a very speedy recovery” to the Swiss couple who were brutally attacked in Agra, the ministry said on Friday.

“From the minister of external affairs, I would like to wish the couple a very speedy recovery,” Official Spokesperson of the MEA Raveesh Kumar said during the weekly media briefing.

He further said that the government was in touch with the Swiss embassy and they too have extended their support to the couple.

Tourists Quentin Jeremy Clerc and Marie Droz were attacked and badly injured near Agra four days ago. While Droz was discharged from Delhi’s Apollo Hospital on Thursday, Clerc’s condition is said to be improving.

Police have taken five people, including three minors, into custody for the crime while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who visited Agra, promised better security for tourists.

The ugly attack took place when the young couple was walking alongside a train track in Fatehpur Sikri near Agra. Clerc was left with a fractured skull and several bruises.

Sushma Swaraj sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the assault. Minister of State for Tourism K.J. Alphons expressed deep concern.
