Speaking about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi), Chandan Chaudhary said that on December 29, at about 1 am, a PCR call was received regarding an incidence of fire in a house located Sangam Vihar.

Immediately, Inspector Manjeet Singh, along with night police staff of Tigri Police Station, reached the spot and found the building enveloped in raging flames.

The building was filled with smoke and the families living at the first and second floor stranded surrounded by the raging fire were crying for help.
As the fire was spreading on the ground floor’s three shops, the stairs to the first floor were completely blocked. Even though the rescue operation risked their life, the police personnel, without wasting time, brought a ladder from a nearby building and efforts were initiated to save the lives of the trapped residents.

The rescue operation was meticulously planned and executed and all the 14 family members, including four women, five males and five children were evacuated from the building.
