The probe into the untimely death of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg in Singapore took a dramatic turn on Thursday, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arresting musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a long-time associate of the late singer.
Goswami, who had accompanied Garg on the Singapore trip and was present during the controversial yacht outing linked to the tragedy, has been taken into custody for questioning.

Officials said details of the charges are yet to be disclosed, but he remains under investigation for possible irregularities connected to the circumstances leading to the singer’s death.
Sources also indicated that entrepreneur Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen secretary Siddartha Sarma could be the next high-profile arrest.
In addition, several members of the Singapore Assam Association are under the scanner, with authorities hinting that more arrests may follow in the coming days.
The SIT was constituted after widespread public outrage and demands for a transparent probe into Garg’s sudden death on September 19.
The 52-year-old singer drowned while swimming in Singapore.
Garg, who rose to fame with his breakthrough Assamese album Anamika in 1992 and went on to make his mark in Bollywood with songs like Ya Ali, was more than just a singer. His music, blending Assamese folk with contemporary rhythms, made him a cultural phenomenon, shaping the soundscape of an entire generation in Assam and the Northeast.
