China is confident that Sino-Indian relations will get an impetus in the wake of Narendra Modi becoming India’s Prime Minister once again, according to a senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Talking to a group of visiting Indian journalists, Degui Mu, member of the standing Committee of CPC from Guizhou, recalled Modi’s contribution in the growth of ties between the two nations during his first term in office.

The Chinese leader said Modi had also done a lot for improving the lot of the people in India.

“We have noticed that after Modi took office (in 2014), he has made a lot of efforts to enhance the Indian economy and improve governance in India,” he added.

Degui said people-to-people contacts between the two countries were also increasing rapidly. Efforts were being made by the two sides to increase air connectivity between them too.

Meanwhile, another senior Chinese official called for increased cooperation between India and China in the field of big data industry in view of rapid strides made by the two countries in the information technology sector.

“China and India are not only two large countries but important neighbours too…cooperation between the two countries is a ‘win-win’ situation for both of us,” Han Shaobo, Deputy Director of the Big Data Bureau of Guizhou province, said.

He said India has emerged as a ‘superpower’ in the field of software while China was a world leader in the field of hardware.

“The software might of India and the hardware might of China is in the larger interest of both of us,” he added.

Han also appreciated India’s active participation at the 5th International Big Data Expo, hosted by Guiyang, capital of China’s Southwest Guizhou Province from 26-29 May.

Attracting nearly 25000 visitors from 55 countries and regions around the world and more than 150 exhibitors from 25 countries, including the US, UK, Germany Russia, Israel and India, this year’s expo brought together the latest scientific and technological achievements and witnessed the release of 49 cutting-edge technologies and products.

A symposium on ‘Sino-Indian IT and DT Industrial Development Cooperation’ in which software experts from India and China participated was the highlight of the expo.

Inaugurating the seminar, Acquino Vimal, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in China, said the engagement between India and China had intensified after the informal summit between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Wuhan in April last year.

The two countries were committed to achieving the target of $100 billion bilateral trade soon, he added.
