Debunking the claim of actor-turned politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay that real Congress workers, committed to save the secular fabric, are with the TVK in this assembly election, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday termed it immature and asserted that the cadre are very much with the party, not going astray.
“Vijay is politically immature and doesn’t have maturity. The Indian National Congress is not with him. I think he might have thought that the TMC was with him. The Congress is firmly with the DMK and the alliance will secure a two-thirds majority,” he told the media in Chennai after releasing the party manifesto for the April 23 assembly election.

The Karnataka Congress strongman also questioned Vijay’s political experience as well as readiness for taking up the reins of governance, suggesting deeper understanding of public issues and maturity as a prerequisite for a leader. He made it clear that despite getting a lesser number of seats in the DMK-led front, the Congress is united with the alliance partners, striving for a landslide.
His sharp dig at Vijay comes in the wake of the actor, attempting to position himself as an alternative to the ruling DMK and Chief Minister Stalin, reiterated at an election rally in Tirunelveli that the DMK and the BJP are no different and that is why Congress cadre are turning to the TVK. Vijay also alleged that both the alliances led by the DMK and the AIADMK-BJP are targeting him for exposing their corruption and misrule.
The Congress manifesto promised Rs 2000 to every family with ration card under Universal Basic Income programme, 3 lakh government jobs in 300 days by filling up vacancies, recruitment of 40,000 policemen, better roads and rabies free Tamil Nadu among others.
