Senior CPI leader and former Vaikom MLA K Ajith has joined the BJP. He accepted BJP membership from party state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar at a function held at the BJP headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Mararji Bhavan on Sunday.

Senior CPI leader and former Vaikom MLA K Ajith has joined the BJP. He accepted BJP membership from party state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar at a function held at the BJP headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Mararji Bhavan on Sunday.
K Ajith was the MLA from Vaikom for two consecutive terms, winning the assembly elections in 2006 and 2011. He was working as the CPI Vaikom Mandal Committee Assistant Secretary and a member of the Kottayam District Council.

Speaking after joining the BJP, Ajith said his entry into the saffron party was not a sudden decision and that the Dalit community was not getting the benefits they deserved from the government. He said it was the BJP that brought in the President’s post from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Bigg Boss star Robin Radhakrishnan also joined the BJP at the same venue. He aslo accepted BJP membership from the party state president.
