A local court on Monday sent the three men arrested in connection with the Rewari gangrape case to five-day police remand.

These three, who were produced before the Civil Court Kanina on Monday, included prime accused Nishu Phogat, the alleged owner of the place where the crime was committed Deen Dayal and Dr Sanjeev who was called by Nishu to the crime spot to examine the victim.

Earlier on Monday, the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar appealed to the general public to not harbour the two absconding accused in the Rewari gangrape case.

Assuring that the two absconding accused will be arrested soon, the CM said that if anyone is caught giving the two accused a refuge, strict legal action will be taken against them.

Meanwhile, a “mahapanchayat” of 25 villages in Rewari on Monday resolved that no practicing lawyer will help any of the accused in the gangrape case. The “mahapanchayat” held in Kosli town has also written to Haryana governor Satyadev Naryana Arya seeking strict action against accused.

Haryana police’s multiple teams are at job to nab the two absconding accused. “A hunt is on to nab the absconding accused,” said Rahul Sharma, who took over as the Rewari superintendent of police (SP) after Rajesh Duggal was moved out on Sunday. The Rewari SP said the safety and health of victim were one of the main concerns.

“Arresting the remaining accused is another concern. However, it (the case) doesn’t end with the arrest of the accused, but it ends with their conviction. So, securing evidence and ensuring they get convicted through a fast-track court would be the next step,” Sharma said.

Doctors at the Rewari civil hospital said the victim’s condition was stable. “She has been taking food. Her condition is stable and her health is showing improvement,” a doctor at the hospital said.
