Ramzan ceasefire: J-K CM Mehbooba Mufti hails Centre’s decision; thanks PM Modi, Rajnath Singh

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday welcomed Centre’s decision to implement Ramzan ceasefire, while thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for their intervention.

CM Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said that I wholeheartedly welcome the Ramadan ceasefire and would like to thank PM Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh for their personal intervention.

My gratitude also to the leaders and parties, who participated in the all party meeting and helped build consensus towards this announcement, she added in her tweet.

“The month of Ramadan is a harbinger of peace & such a decision will go a long way in creating a peaceful & amicable environment for a sustained dialogue”, Mufti said in another tweet.

The Center on Wednesday told told security forces to not launch any operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan, however, the forces reserve the right to retaliate if attacked.

However, the security forces reserve the right to retaliate if attacked or if essential to protect the lives of innocent people.

The Centre also said that it expects everyone to cooperate in this initiative and help the Muslim brothers and sisters to observe Ramzan peacefully and without any difficulties.

The order comes in the wake of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s appeal to the Centre on behalf of all-parties to announce an unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir during the upcoming Amarnath yatra and holy month of Ramzan.

After holding an all-party meeting in Srinagar, CM Mehbooba Mufti had announced that there was a consensus on asking the Centre to announce unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir. However, her claims were rejected by her alliance partner, Bharatiya Janata Party.
