A day after the Centre overhauled eight Cabinet Committees with Home Minister Amit Shah featuring in all the panels, senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was added to four more committees of the Union Cabinet late on Thursday.

The Narendra Modi-led Central government had on Wednesday reconstituted eight Cabinet Committees where Rajnath Singh was named only in two panels – Cabinet Committees on Economic Affairs and Security.

Now Singh, who was the second to take oath only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, features in four other panels – Cabinet Committees on Parliamentary Affairs; Political Affairs; Investment and Growth; and Employment and Skill development.

The move about Rajnath Singh came amid speculation that he was unhappy over not being given his due in the formation of the panels and had threatened to quit.

However, the reports have been junked by Rajnath’s office.

Rajnath Singh’s notable missing from key panels had raised eyebrows because the minister who is number two in the government usually presides over the cabinet and the political affairs committee in the absence of the Prime Minister.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is in seven panels and Commerce and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal in five.

However, the Cabinet Appointments Committee has only PM Modi and Amit Shah.
