The academic curriculum of the university will be aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with emphasis on the application of sports science and technology, particularly in practical training.
The institution will feature state-of-the-art sports infrastructure and facilities. It will also conduct doctoral-level courses leading to Ph.D. degrees in sports science, sports technology, and performance analytics.
The announcement to set up the university was made in the 2025–26 state budget by the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government.
In another key decision, the state cabinet approved amendments to the Civil Service Rules to enhance the quantum of family pension for parents of deceased state employees. They will now receive 50 percent of the last salary drawn by the employee, at par with the spouse’s entitlement. Currently, parents receive only 30 percent.
The cabinet also decided that disabled sons and daughters of deceased employees will continue to receive the family pension even after marriage. This measure was taken at the initiative of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel said during the briefing.
Additionally, the cabinet revised the fee structure for NRI candidates seeking MBBS admission in private medical colleges.
The annual fee has been reduced from ₹31 lakh to ₹22.93 lakh. Under the new formula, NRI fees will be fixed at two-and-a-half times the fees charged from general domestic students.
