Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday mourned the demise of Bollywood legend Dharmendra Deol, calling his death an “irreparable loss for the Indian art world.” He praised Dharmendra’s “unparalleled contribution” to Indian cinema, adding that the actor will always be remembered with respect and love.

“I offer my heartfelt tribute to Dharmendra ji. In this hour of grief, my condolences are with his bereaved family, friends, and fans,” Gandhi said on X.

Expressing her condolences to the bereaved family and his millions of fans, she said, “Dharmendra ji reigned over the hearts of cinema lovers for decades and set an unparalleled example of acting.”

“He will live on in the hearts, minds, and memories of cinema lovers,” she added.

Dharmendra passed away on Monday morning due to age-related ailments. He was 89. The actor was cremated at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan, Agastya Nanda, and Amitabh Bachchan, attended his last rites.

Dharmendra is survived by his wife Hema Malini, sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, daughter Esha Deol, and his grandchildren.
