Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, who quit Lalu Yadav’s RJD days ago, passes away at Delhi AIIMS

Former Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh passes away on Sunday. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Delhi.

On Thursday, in a big jolt to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD ahead of Bihar polls, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh had resigned from the party.

RJD leader Lalu Yadav had written to Singh over his resignation letter saying, “We will talk once you are well. You are not going anywhere.”

On the news of his death, Lalu Prasad Yadav reacted by saying, “Dear Raghuvansh, what have you done? I told you day before yesterday itself that you are going nowhere. But you went so far. No words to say, I am sad. You will be missed.”

Yesterday, a close aide of his told news agency PTI that “Singh sahib’s condition deteriorated considerably last night. At 11.56 PM, he was put on a ventilator. We are praying for his well-being”.

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was a close associate of Lalu Prasad Yadav and represented Bihar’s Vaishali constituency.

He was Union Minister for Rural Development in the Congress-led UPA government.

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was suffering from fever and cough for quite some time and was admitted to AIIMS following the advice of doctors and his samples were also sent for COVID-19 testing. The sample report came out and he has tested positive.

A staunch supporter of Lalu Prasad who, nonetheless, is never shy of speaking his mind, Singh is one of the founding members of the RJD. A five-term MP from Vaishali, the veteran leader lost the seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and failed to wrest it back five years later.
