The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Om Prakash, posted at Sohana Police Station, district Mohali, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1.55 lakh.
Disclosing this, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused police official was arrested following an investigation into an online complaint lodged by the complainant on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.

As per the complaint, a case had been registered against Gurjit Singh and his wife at Sohana Police Station. ASI Om Prakash, who was handling the case, demanded a bribe of ₹2.50 lakh for cancelling the FIR. He subsequently accepted ₹1.55 lakh from the complainant for this purpose.
The spokesperson added that after thorough verification, the allegations were found to be true. Accordingly, the VB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Police Station, SAS Nagar (Mohali), against ASI Om Prakash.
Reiterating the Punjab government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, the spokesperson emphasized that this arrest reflects the Bureau’s firm resolve to take strict action against any public servant found involved in corrupt practices, regardless of their rank or position.
