In a major breakthrough in the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Faridkot, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), has successfully foiled a major cross-border smuggling attempt along the land border near Border Outpost (BOP) GG-3 at village Teja Rahela in Fazilka.
The joint operation led to the recovery of 2.1 kg of heroin, 21 sophisticated pistols, and ammunition, state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said here on Thursday.

The recovered arms and ammunition include 11 Glock pistols with 22 magazines, one Beretta pistol with a magazine, five Zigana pistols with 10 magazines, three Norinco pistols with five magazines, one Ghaffar Security pistol (MP-5 type) with a magazine, and 310 live 9 mm cartridges.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that Pakistan-based smugglers crossed the zero line and operated close to the border fence, attempting to exploit night conditions and dense fog to push arms and narcotics into Indian territory.
Alert BSF personnel fired several rounds to prevent the breach, following which a thorough joint search operation was conducted, leading to the recovery, he added.
Sharing operational details, AIG CI Gursewak Singh Brar said that acting on reliable intelligence inputs, police teams along with BSF Fazilka planned a special ambush and executed a joint covert operation in the early hours of Thursday in the area of village Teja Rahela, Fazilka.
During the operation, Pakistani smugglers attempted to push the consignment, but BSF troops responded swiftly and successfully thwarted the attempt, resulting in a substantial seizure of arms, ammunition, and narcotics from the spot.
The AIG further stated that further investigations are underway to identify and trace local smugglers and to unravel the entire smuggling network involved in the cross-border operation.
